The Algarve is well known for its beaches, sports and fortified wines and is a haven of history and culture, which makes it a delight to visit all year round.

The Algarve Accommodation Agency is situated in the western Algarve in the picturesque town of Lagos. With properties in many of the surrounding towns and villages, there really is something to offer holiday makers of all ages.

Lagos

This beautiful market town is set within one of the largest bays on the Algarve.
Lagos is one of the Algarve's oldest and most interesting towns and within the historic walls there's an abundance of cafes and restaurants along its cobbled streets. Lagos was primarily a fishing port that has become a popular tourist location.

The Marina de Lagos offers a touch of elegance with it restaurants, shops, bars and cafes and is also an important yachting centre.

Lagos combines both a local and tourist feel better than any other resort on the Algarve, there's always a good local presence when you visit this typical Portuguese town.

Praia da Luz

Luz can be found just a few kilometres west of Lagos, originally a fishing village Luz now provides many luxury holiday complexes loved by families from all over, with its cobbled streets and white washed villas this is the perfect resort for a relaxing holiday.

There are plenty of cafes; bars and restaurants on offer and a selection of water sports are available on the beach.

Burgau

This unspoilt fishing village is a picture of the true Algarve, with its cobbled streets and sandy beach which boasts several beach restaurants that look out to the bay with its fishing boats glistening in the sea.

Burgau makes a very romantic and peaceful holiday destination.

If you want to get away from the hustle and bustle and purely relax this is the resort for you.

BEACHES & HISTORY

With plenty on offer for those who like to spend days out and about, why not try one of the Algarve’s many wonderful attractions.

Beaches

There are so many stunningly beautiful beaches in the Algarve, no more so than in the western Algarve. There are many beaches to choose from, most of which are located close to the Algarve Accommodation Agencies holiday properties. You will find amongst them a good selection on which to enjoy your holiday. When you see the sign “Praia” this means in Portuguese “beach”.

All main beaches have in the season Lifeguards on safety patrol. Many beaches offer all the usual water sports facilities along with beach bars serving everything from drinks, light snacks to lunch and dinner menus.

The beaches in the surrounding area of many of our holiday properties vary from the small sheltered coves to broad endless stretches of sea washed sand -

Meia Praia in Lagos - 6 miles of golden sandy beach

Praia Dona Ana in Lagos - A beautiful cove formed within the surrounding cliffs

Porto de Mos in Lagos - Large beach set within the cliffs

Praia da Batata in Lagos - This is the town beach close to the centre

Praia da Luz Beach in Praia da Luz – This is a safe enclosed bay

The small town of Silves can be found inland from Portimao.

This typically Portuguese area is full of local history, you can simply walk the wall of the castle and take in the views or visit the Museu Arqueologico where you can find exhibits of locally found objects, including items dating back to the Stone Age.

Silves has plenty of cafes and lovely restaurants proving to be a great choice for a full day out.

Monchique

Monchique is one of the most scenic areas on the Algarve and is in complete contrast to the tourism areas along the coast yet only a short drive from most coastal resorts, Mochique “mountain” and its surrounding area is famous for production of cattle, cork, wood and the Medronho berry which makes the local Medrohno liquor (Fire water) a strong schnapps.

Foia is just past the town of Monchique and is the top of the “mountain” Foia boasts 360-degree views that on a clear day stretch as far as the eye can see. You can also visit Caldas de Monchique situated half way between the coast and Monchique village.

This is a Roman Spa where you can stop and taste some fresh spa water in these beautiful surroundings. On a visit to Monchique it is recommended you try the local Piri Piri chicken in one of the many restaurants on offer.

Sagres is the most South Westerly point of Europe so for this reason alone it is well worth a visit. Its fortress dates back to the 15th Century, this landmark is situated on the cliff tops and is open to the public to walk around or simply just take in the magnificent views.

Cape St Vincente also has stunning views out to the ocean and all along the west coast, this is the home of one of the most famous lighthouses in Europe, all shipping between the Mediterranean and the North Atlantic Sea passes here.
